Weekly Reflection 8

This week (May 20) was a little strange, and there is not much to write about it. Since there were no classes in the library this week after 3 (three!) homerooms in the morning, Erin decided to do a massive rearranging, finally box up weeded books, and generally turn the library upside-down. I generally puttered back and forth doing small tasks here and there as necessary, which included checking books and laptops in and out, putting new call numbers on books and changing them in the system, cart books to different locations, sorting craft supplies and putting them away, and suggesting a book or two to be purchased next school year or over the summer.

The one thing that I got wrong from last week is the center of the room, because of the new rearrangement. The center of the room now has all the contemporary fiction, romance, and poetry in it, as well as the manga and LGBTQ+ books. From what it sounds like, Erin is going to use this rearrangement to move all the fantasy/sci-fi to the back corner where contemporary fiction was, and then shuffle the horror books to where romance was to clear out those shelves as well.

Contemporary Fiction/Center of Room
What a mess!

LGBTQ Books
The new LGBTQ shelves – much more room, much more visible

The “narrative non-fiction” section also no longer exists, and has been replaced by the biography section.

NNF/Bio
Narrative Non-Fiction – now biographies, needs new signs.

The only other interesting thing to happen was that Erin was in a meeting when I got there, but the library was open with no TA, which meant I was “in charge” for the first fifteen minutes or so. It was mostly checking out laptops and books, but a couple students needed things that I couldn’t help with (like hall passes) or where their class was supposed to go (the aforementioned three(!) simultaneous homerooms). I have a newfound respect for school librarians, and no desire to be one anytime soon.
